In spring and summer, Ariège is distinguished by its magnificent hikes, each rivaling in beauty. However, winter is not to be outdone! We love walking along the paths offering open views, the trees stripped of their leaves giving way to striking panoramas. It's a pleasant way to stay in shape and get some fresh air even when the temperatures get cooler. We give you our 3 favorite hikes to do in winter, for all levels!

The majestic ladies of Caraybat

The Caraybat ladies are superb dolomites to observe. They are the result of a geological formation. What we like most about this hike is the breathtaking perspective it offers over the Lesponne valley, enhanced by a grandiose panorama of the snow-capped peaks of the Pyrenees.

With a duration of less than two hours, this excursion is suitable for all levels thanks to its low altitude difference. It is ideal for Sunday family walks after a good meal 😌.

The unmissable Uscla hike

In the Barguillère valley at the start of the Col des Marrous, the Col d'Uscla is waiting for you! This charming hike will take you through forests, pine forests and breathtaking viewpoints, revealing the splendors of the Arize massif and the Barguillère valley. In the heart of the Ariège Pyrenees Regional Natural Park, this hike offers a privileged opportunity to admire the majestic peaks of the Pyrenees.

For us, what makes this hike so special is the unique forest ambiance that reigns in winter. We also love gaining height and a little altitude! The highest point of this hike is located at Cap des Trois Termes at 1 meters.

The emblematic summit of Picou

For this hike, we offer a slightly more difficult route, reserved for good walkers. It is at altitude that you will have to walk to reach the summit of the emblematic Picou, between panoramas of the Barguillère valley, views of the town of Foix and breathtaking perspectives of the high Ariège range.
The demanding nature of this hike pushes us to appreciate even more the ascent and the beautiful panoramas that pass throughout the walk.

Please note: This hike is strongly discouraged in bad weather. In fact, the fog falls very quickly on this route and it becomes difficult to find your way and get your bearings. It is important to be vigilant and choose suitable weather conditions to fully enjoy this experience at altitude.

So, which of these three winter hikes tempts you for your next outing near Foix? One thing is certain, you will not be disappointed with the trip!
