The municipality of Montgailhard is located 5km south of Foix. In the Middle Ages it was a stronghold in the county of Foix, the remains of this era are visible at Pain de Sucre where you can see the castle ruins which overlooked the valley. The village is located in the heart of a Natura 2000 zone.
